Norest Mashonganyika is a qualified Nurse Practitioner, having graduated with a Master of Nurse Practitioner from the University of Newcastle. He has 10 years’ experience of mental health nursing, specialising in primary care and drug and alcohol abuse.
Norest completed his Bachelor of Nursing at RMIT University and his Master of Mental Health at the University of Newcastle. Since then, he has worked at a range of inpatient and outpatient mental health care settings. Norest uses various methods in his practice, using his experience and each patient’s needs to carry out a care plan. Some of the methods Norest is knowledgeable in include Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Person Centred Therapy (PCT), Narrative Therapy, Individual Psychology (Adlerian), Mindfulness Meditation, Goal Setting, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Norest is trained to perform advanced health assessments, diagnose patients, and can initiate and in addition to prescribing appropriate medication, Norest designs, implements and monitors therapeutic regimens in collaboration with patients, families, and carers.
Norest is a caring and empathetic Nurse Practitioner whose interest in mental health has led to a deep passion for helping patients suffering from mental health issues to manage their conditions and enjoy a high quality of life. He is very experienced in working with patients experiencing post-traumatic stress disorders, intellectual disabilities, substance abuse disorders, panic disorder, social phobia, anxiety disorders and depression.
His excellent communication skills enable him to work with other health professionals in the care and management of his patients. Norest builds a good rapport with patients and health professional colleagues alike and maintains strong working relationships that benefit his patients.
